Responsible Gambling Week 2020
3rd August 2020
GAMBLING AWARENESS WEEK A REMINDER THAT SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE
RESPONSIBLE Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW) was held in Queensland from 27 July - 2 August 2020.
RGAW is about spreading the message and highlighting the harm that problematic gambling can have on the individual, their family and the greater community and how to get help if needed.
Centacare NQ’s Gambling Help program had pop up information stalls at local gaming venues across Townsville and Mt Isa during the week. Feedback was positive from stall visitors and as a result more awareness of our Gambling Help service has been raised across North Queensland.
Local gaming venues have been very supportive and worked in tandem with us to ensure gambling harm minimisation for the community. They are, for the most part, the first point of reference for vulnerable individuals experiencing gambling addiction.
The Gambling Help service provides free and confidential counselling, which can be accessed face-to-face or via telephone. No referrals are required to access the service. We want to encourage people to seek help where a gambling problem is identified, and we want to remind family and friends affected by this problem that they, too, can see us for support.
CENTACARE NORTH QUEENSLAND’S TOP 5 RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING TIPS:
- Set money and time limits and stick to them
- Take breaks when gambling
- Don’t chase your losses – walk away
- Make gambling only one part of a range of activities you use for interest or recreation
- Quitting: Delay + Distract = staying stopped
