New Mural for Centacare NQ's Yarning Stone Area
14th August 2020
This week we celebrated the unveiling of the new mural featured in the Centacare North Queensland's Yarning Stone courtyard area.
The mural was commissioned to Nicky Bidju Pryor a local Aboriginal Mural Artist and owner of Bidju Designs. Centacare NQ staff are thrilled with the outcome and all visitors to the space have been wowed by the bold colours and artistry.
Nicky explains that the head of the diamond headed python is at the entrance gate to represent welcoming to the area. The sun shows a rippling effect to show growth and change and the hand prints represent some of the children that have used our services.
During the June/July 2020 school holidays budding young artist Sophie along with a handful of other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Children participated in the hand prints and the painting of this beautiful wall.
Centacare NQ’s Executive Director Paula Washington presented Nicky with a Certificate of Appreciation in front of Centacare NQ staff, a selection of community members, Elders and Fr Rod Ward.
Please enjoy the photos along with Sophie’s speech.
