NAIDOC Week 2021
9th July 2021
Centacare NQ staff marched along side of indigenous elders, local residents, businesses and other community groups in recognition of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Hundreds of community members made up the crowd that proudly marched down Thuringowa drive – masks on, flags and banners raised high, music pumping, impromptu dancing, and supportive cheers from onlookers.
Vehicles patiently waited as traditional dancing was performed at the intersection of Ross River Road and Thuringowa Drive.
The march concluded at the NAIDOC Deadly Day Out held at the Riverway, pioneer Parklands. Centacare NQ and Family Relationship Centre staff met with attendees at the Deadly Day Out to share in the celebration and provide information about their services.
The Centacare NQ stall also invited attendees to mark their mob on the traditional land map. Stay tuned for more photos and the finished result.
