Centacare NQ Knows ASIST Makes A Difference

Centacare North Queensland is hosting Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) in Mount Isa on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 November to educate and train the community how to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide.
ASIST is the world's leading two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid developed by Living Well Australia.
ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by health care providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop - ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.
In the course of the two-day workshop, participants will learn to:
- Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes on suicide and interventions
- Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes on suicide and interventions
- Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs- Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
- Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
- Recognise other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
ASIST Workshop will be held at Centacare North Queensland from 9am on Tues 26 and Wed 27 November at 80 Short Street, Mount Isa.
Cost is $285 per person including GST.
