Celebrating Kristy

3rd September 2025

We’re proud to celebrate and introduce Kristy, who manages our teams across Townsville, Mt Isa, Cloncurry and Normanton as our Program Manger for Bridge, Rosa and Children’s intervention service. Kristy leads a range of vital programs, including early intervention family support, counselling for young people in statutory care, and a youth program supporting vulnerable young people. Her leadership and passion for community wellbeing are felt right across our region.

Alongside her impactful work with Centacare NQ, Kristy has also achieved something extraordinary, completing her PhD in Psychology. Her research focused on risk perception and communication in social and environmental psychology, exploring how people understand risk and how barriers can be addressed through better framing of risk messages.

Kristy’s PhD journey had many highlights, from publishing articles in academic journals to presenting at an international conference in Hawaii. It also came with challenges, including the loss of her primary supervisor midway through her studies, but through persistence, support, and determination, she saw it through to the end.

The best advice Kristy received along the way?
? “A PhD is 90% persistence and 10% intelligence,  if you want something hard enough, anything is achievable.”

Congratulations Kristy on this remarkable achievement, and thank you for the incredible work you do supporting young people, families, and communities across North and North West Queensland.
