Child Safety Forum 2019
9th April 2019
Over the course of 2018, a series of amendments were made to the Child Protection Act as the final stages to the reformed Child Safety System in Queensland – Supporting Families Changing Futures. In essence, the changes seek to:
- provide permanency and stability for children, now and throughout their lives, including support when they leave care;
- provide permanency and stability for children, now and throughout their lives, including support when they leave care;
- provide the safe care and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with their families, communities and cultures;
- establish a contemporary information sharing framework focused on children’s safety and well-being;
- support implementation of other key reforms under the Supporting Families Changing Futures program.
The event will commence with afternoon tea and presented in two parts:
Part 1: an overview of the legislation amendments;
Part 2: A workshop and open discussions which will centre around a case based scenario that will be used to highlight the importance of the amendments in our day to day work and bring into focus the practical implications on families. Panel discussions with representatives from the Child Safety Sector will follow.
The event will be facilitated by Joanne Meade, Principal Lawyer at Legal Aid Queensland. This event is open to professionals in the Legal and Community Sectors working with families within the Child Protection or Family Law System.
