The Pathways Program provides individual counselling for students, support for parents and carers and resources and/or training for teachers, and is responsible for developing and delivering psycho-educational groups for students and parents as required.

Issues commonly presented to Pathways counsellors:
  • Bullying
  • Family conflicts/separation or divorce
  • Relationships issues
  • Emotional and anger issues
  • Loss/bereavement
  • Relationships (family or peer)
  • Behavioural issues
  • Learning difficulties
  • Social Skills

Eligibility to access service

Referrals can be made by students, school staff or parents/caregivers

Professionalism

At Centacare, each counsellor has a tertiary qualification in the social sciences field with practical experience in family and relationship counselling.

Counsellors are ethically bound to refer clients whose issues are outside their area of expertise or where the issues do not fit within the guidelines of our service.

Session Times

Each counselling session generally runs for 30-40 minutes.  Future appointments can be negotiated with the counsellor.

Confidentiality

Counselling is confidential within the limits of legal and professional boundaries. This can be clarified with your counsellor if you are unsure as to what this means for you.

Fees

This is a fee for service program.  Schools enter into a 12- month Service Agreement for Centacare to provide school based counsellors for the agreed number of days per week.

There is no additional cost to students, staff or parents accessing the service.

Making an Appointment

You do not need a referral to use our service.  All you need to do is contact the relevant in-school counsellor to request a session.  Should you require information outside of the days that they attend your school please contact the Centacare in Townsville on (07) 4772 9000 or in Mount Isa on (07) 47434449.
