The Counselling Intervention Service (CIS) in Mount Isa can provide you and your family with a range of culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions including:
  • Individual counselling for children, adults and carers
  • Relationship or family enhancement
  • Family therapy
  • Household management
  • Advocacy
  • Information and referral
Issues that may be addressed include:
  • Adjusting to alternative care placement
  • Parenting techniques
  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Domestic violence
  • Child abuse and neglect
  • Anger management
  • Disengagement from mainstream schooling
  • Personal empowerment and support

Referral Process

Referrals can come from the individual, other services or the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services).  For an individual or family to engage in the service there must be some level of involvement with The Department of Communities (Child Safety Services).

Professionalism

At Centacare, each counsellor has a tertiary qualification in the social sciences field with a range of practical experiences.

Counsellors are ethically bound to refer clients whose issues are outside their area of expertise or where the issues do not fit within the guidelines of our service.       

Session Times

Sessions time range depending on your specific needs.  Please discuss with your counsellor or at the time of making an appointment.  This service can also provide outreach appointments.

Confidentiality

Counselling is confidential within the limits of legal and professional boundaries. This can be clarified with your counsellor if you are unsure as to what this means for you.

Fees

This program is funded by the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services) and there is no fee for accessing this service.
